Why construction can lose a rating
Certification is awarded on evidence that the building was delivered as designed. If materials deviate from the certified specifications, if submittals are approved without checking requirements, or if documentation is not maintained, credits can be lost regardless of how strong the design was. Construction is where a rating is protected or surrendered.

Material submittals and specifications
The discipline is verification. Each material submittal is checked against the sustainability and certification requirements, and variances are resolved against the design intent before approval, not after installation.
Site coordination and audits
A sustainability consultant supports supervision teams on site, attends audits and keeps the documentation and evidence trail current. The goal is that certification at completion is a formality supported by months of verified records, not a recovery exercise.
Practical completion
At handover, the evidence must match the certified design. Contractors and supervision teams that treat compliance as part of the normal sequence protect the rating, the programme and the client's investment.
